The A.J. Muste Memorial Institute is thrilled to announce that our mission to support nonviolent action for social justice will soon have a new home.

Read a letter from our movement tenants.

Since 1974, we have struggled with the upkeep of an aging brick building at 339 Lafayette Street in downtown Manhattan where we operate our programs:

  • offering affordable office and meeting space to local activist and media justice groups;

  • providing grants and other support to grassroots organizing projects all over the world; and

  • publishing literature to promote thought and reflection on the subject of active nonviolence.

In 2015 we sold 339 Lafayette, and we recently signed a five-year renewable lease on a beautiful top floor space not far away in downtown Manhattan.

The new space is wheelchair accessible and large enough to house our current movement tenants along with a few new ones!

We hope to buy a permanent home in the near future, but we'll be able to explore the options without undue pressure and from a comfortable base.

We're not moving until April or May of 2016, so please keep using 339 Lafayette Street as our mailing address. We'll be sure to let you know when it changes.

We look forward to keeping you informed as we move forward on this exciting journey. Thanks for your support!
